Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation urges community involvement in

Trillium College Chilly Half Marathon and Frosty 5K Run

[Burlington, Ontario] – Since 2010, the annual Trillium College Chilly Half Marathon and Frosty 5K Run has raised over $114,000 for Burlington’s Joseph Brant Hospital. With the 2015 event but two weeks away, the Hospital Foundation, its race coordinator, VR Pro, and community-minded Burlington residents are getting excited: on Sunday, March 1st, determined – and in many cases elite or Olympics-bound – runners, as well as walkers and cheering spectators, will come out, making this year’s β€œChilly” as thrilling – and socially vital – as usual.

Interested participants can register for 5K or half marathon (21 k) races, or a 5K walk. A practice β€œfun run” will be led by veteran marathoner Mark Sullivan the day before, on February 28th, with a pasta party dinner to follow. The first 4,200 registrants will receive a free technical running jacket, and all participants will be awarded a finishing medal for their efforts. Following the race, runners are invited to enjoy a free and hot chili lunch, to be held at several nearby restaurants.

Anissa Hilborn, President of the Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation and a past Frosty 5K participant, urges residents to support the event in any way possible. β€œWithout the generosity of community members, our hospital would not have the resources to meet the constant need for new and more sophisticated equipment. Over the past five years, the Chilly Half Marathon and Frosty 5K has raised more than $114,000 for the Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation in support of this need.” Hilborn emphasizes that funds raised this year will support the JBH Cancer Clinic and the Foundation’s Our New Era Campaign.

Trillium College, CIBC and New Balance have also joined forces by providing generous race sponsorships. According to Trillium College CEO Darryl Simsovic, β€œHaving a downtown Burlington campus has shown us how important first-rate, close-to-home health care is for our community. This is Trillium College’s second year sponsoring the Chilly Half. We’ll continue to support a race that promotes wellness through exercise, while bolstering a premier health care facility like Joseph Brant Hospital.” Trillium College’s massage therapist students will also be on hand post-race to relieve runners’ sore muscles.

The Trillium College Chilly Half Marathon and Frosty 5K takes place Sunday, March 1st, 2015, in Burlington, Ontario, starting at 10:05 am. Top runners Eric Gillis, Reid Coolsaet, Rachel Hannah and Krista DuChene will be in attendance. Visit www.chillyhalfmarathon.ca or call 905-512-2488 for registration, or more information.
