This weekend, try something new. Craftadian Spring Market, a curated space with 80 local artisans, designers and food purveyors takes place at McMaster Innovation Park on April 7, where participants can shop locally made goods, learn new skills and go home with something handmade.
Here’s a roundup of the new experiential workshops:
10am: Learn to Needle Felt a Hedgehog hosted by Woolly Doodles, $45. Join Cathy Disbrow in this 2-hour workshop to learn how to needle felt using a basic wire wrapping technique, create shape, and face detailing. For all levels.
12pm: Create your own stack bracelets hosted by Sunstone Jewels, $25. Create and take home two custom beaded stack bracelets in this 2-hour workshop. For all levels.
2pm: Brush Lettering hosted by Designed by Cassia, $50. Learn basic lettering techniques, the importance of layout, how to create a final lettered phrase, transfer and paint a custom design onto a wooden plank in this 2-hour workshop. For all levels.
For many of these artisans and small business owners, Craftadian and other shows are the only time they are able to interact with customers face to face. It’s a great opportunity to shop small, and support the local community instead of shopping big box retailers or online.
At Craftadian you’ll find everything from jewellery, bags, to home décor will be on offer, as well as a live music set by DJ Aerlie Wild, food trucks including Johnny Rocco’s Pizza Wagon, Dirty South, and Sweet Temptations Cupcakery, indoor food purveyors including Andrzejewski Perogies, Durand Coffee, Soup Girl, Sweet Potato Johnny, and The Strudel Lady, plus free swag bags filled with handmade goodies for the first 50 people in line at 10am, plus gift giveaways at 2pm.
A portion of the proceeds go towards Food 4 Kids, a Hamilton-based, not-for-profit, providing healthy food to elementary school students from at-risk, low-income or disadvantaged homes with limited or no food during weekend periods.
