Make a Difference – Serving up a Hot Healthy Breakfast for a Cause

Hot Breakfast

Those involved in community care will tell you that Christmas is a difficult time for those who struggle all year to provide the basic necessities for themselves and their families—then have little financial means left at the end of the year for the holidays. A delicious meal can provide comfort and camaraderie to those in need.

But how can you help? First: check out twasthebitebeforechristmas.com. This incredible initiative, now in its 10th year, raises funds for hungry children right here in Mississauga. Last year alone, through a series of ‘Twas the Bite Before Christmas events, $60,000 was raised along with tons of food collected, and 800 turkeys were given out to hungry families.

In the beginning, most of the ‘Bite’ events were held in south Mississauga. Last year, the cause was taken up by north Mississauga business leaders to help increase awareness and community engagement with Streetsville’s local food bank, Eden Food For Change. A fabulous breakfast was held at a local pub, supported by volunteers, in-kind sponsors, local businesses, residents and local community.

“The original goal was to raise $2,000,” explains successful local business owner and Twas the Bite Breakfast organizer Imran Hassan, “but when Meridian Credit Union heard about the initiative, they matched the original goal, helping us reach a total donation of $5,000.”

This year’s goal is $10,000, says Hassan.

“Each $20 donation allows Eden Food For Change to prepare 100 fresh and healthy meals to feed hungry families in need with dignity and respect.”
