When you live in a region with such a rich history, it’s bound to have a ghost story or two. Whether you’re a local history buff or just curious about its local haunts, get into the Halloween spirit while learning about the eerie side of our area’s heritage.
You won’t have to go far to discover that our community has a peculiar – and interesting – past. Did you know that The Grey Goat Pub, built in 1865, was originally a funeral home? Have you heard the story of mysterious footsteps in the middle of the night reported at the Howard Johnson Hotel? The Newmarket Inn is said to have visits by the ghost of a man wearing a blue coat. Get your thrills and chills at some of our scariest sites rumoured to have ghostly tenants.
Too scared to go it alone? They say there’s safety in numbers, so bring some friends to huddle with on a group tour. Spend the witching hour on October 27th with a full moon walking tour, highlighting Aurora’s creepiest locales. David Heard, whose family has resided in Aurora since the 1800’s, will show you the spooky side of Aurora, including his family’s ghost of the St. Lawrence Market. The tour promises that you won’t be the same after this haunting 90-minute experience.
Kids enjoy the Halloween season too and there’s also a family friendly night for frights. Aurora’s Haunted Forest Walk in Sheppard’s Bush, which runs on October 24, promises phantas-tic fun for everyone. Continue the fun for all ages with crafts and games at the Aurora Leisure Complex.
