This delicate art-deco style design had its roots in a custom design request for a book club who wanted a gift for a departing member.
I began with a border of books and glasses of wine repeating. Then there was a realistic version of a hand-tooled volume with details emblematic of plot twists. It was all a bit too much so it was back to the drawing board.
I took my original concept of the open book. Can you see it? With its pages fluttering? It was a strong, simple graphic that I then inverted and repeated on a one third, two thirds rhythm. The result is this classic effect.... strong, simple and works perfectly in all sizes and woods.
As I posted the progress on Instagram I started receiving requests for the design for teacher gifts - our school year was going to a close. I'm so happy with the result. Neutral enough to work in any decor, but with this clever composition its perfect for readers, educators and of course book club members.
