Meet Wax + Wane
Have you paused for your moment of magic today?
Surrender your inner boss babe, slow the grind, and halt the hustle with Wax + Wane Coffee.
Founded in 2020 by Chantsy, a local Ottawa influencer, Wax + Wane Coffee was created from her love of coffee and a reminder to slow down from her busy life and practice mindfulness in the everyday mundane.
Chantsy works with local artisanal roasters, who source only the best quality beans from around the world. Wax + Wane coffee beans are freshly roasted to order in small batches and shipped directly to clients all over North America.

Tell us the story behind how you founded Wax + Wane?
In 2014, I started a blog, where I created curvy style and Ottawa lifestyle content. Over the years, I rode the wave on Instagram under my pseudonym @Chantsy and became what we call an Infleucer today. My personal brand is all about being a relatable Canadian mom, who loves beauty and fashion. I like to empower women to embrace their beauty, no matter what size they are. My blog supports local and Canadian as much as possible, which is why I relate to the work that Look Local does.
In December 2020, I started Wax + Wane Coffee, a fresh roast-to-order online coffee company, to celebrate my love of coffee. Although it may seem like it came out of nowhere, it’s something I had been thinking about for a while and the opportunity came at the right time.
I create wax + wane to be beautiful and giftable, and to bring feminin energy to the coffee industry. I want to remove the barriers and make it less intimidating for people just getting into good coffee. Coffee culture can be very snobby and elitist, and I want to change that.
The coffee I drink is the coffee I sell, and there is no better way to spread my message of mindfulness and gratitude for small joys to my local audience.
My morning coffee ritual has been the best part of waking up during lockdown, and I wanted to share that experience with everyone. I especially love creating my relaxing coffee videos on Instagram reels and TikTok.
What inspired the name?
Waxing and Waning are what I like to call the “unknown/uncommon” phases of the moon. They are transitions between the full moon and new moon.
The name reminds us to celebrate and pause for the magic moments in between. It reminds us to slow down, to be present and live for the everyday moments in life, not just the big milestones.
I also love and admire the energy of the moon, much like the energy we get from coffee! I am really into Moonology and love learning more about the power of the moon.
I get so much creativity and inspiration for my business from the moon, like the names of my coffee beans, and my moon inspired playlist on Spotify (wax and wane vibes).
How do you source your coffee beans?
First things first, I don’t pretend to be a professional roaster, and I don’t roast the coffee beans in my basement! I have partnered with expert artisanal coffee roasters who help me choose the right coffee beans, the right roast, and the right region. This way, I can focus on what I am good at- creating content, marketing, branding and building an online community!
I personally love single origin coffee beans, that means the coffee beans are all from the same region, not mixed. Blends are a craft on their own, and work beautifully, like in our New Moon Espresso for example. They are signature recipes developed by the coffee masters. Some like to purchase only fairtrade coffee beans, which I do carry. Although all the beans are sourced ethically, we only label Fairtrade on the coffee beans that are regulated.
I love a balanced medium roast and my personal favourites are Waxing Moon and Waning Moon (hint hint). I love coffee that is not burnt, bitter or acidic. I like to try other coffee sometimes, but I always go back to wax + wane. I am literally obsessed – when you find the one you love, it’s hard to leave.
What do you love most about being an entrepreneur/ small biz owner?
I love the entrepreneurial spirit- it’s invigorating, energizing and limitless. I love connecting, collaborating and creating with fellow business owners, because we understand how lonely and isolating it can be to work alone.
That being said, Bossbabe and hustle culture has really promoted a toxic burnout mentality over the years. And because the majority of my clients are women, I really want to help them slow things down. I don’t want to promote the “caffeine is good for workaholics” mindset. This mission is also a reminder to myself to slow down, because I tend to take on more than I should.
Surrender your inner boss babe, slow the grind and halt the hustle- Wax + Wane coffee lovers are asked to pause and mindfully enjoy the tiny magical moments between the waxing and waning moon, hopefully with a cup of our coffee in hand.
