MARINA NEMAT was born in 1965 in Tehran, Iran, and came to Canada in 1991. Her first memoir, Prisoner of Tehran, has been published in twenty-eight countries and her second book, After Tehran, in four. In 2007, Marina received the inaugural Human Dignity Award from the European Parliament, in 2008 the Grinzane Literary Prize in Italy, and in 2014 the Morris Abram Human Rights Award by UN Watch in Geneva. She sits on the Board of Directors at the Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture (CCVT) and on the Writers in Exile Committee at PEN Canada, in addition to volunteering at her church’s Refugee Committee. Marina regularly speaks at schools, universities, and conferences around the world and teaches memoir writing at the School of Continuing Studies at University of Toronto.
AMBER BOWMAN is a proud graduate of the Ohio State University where she achieved a degree in Exercise Science. While attending Ohio State, she played on the Women’s Ice hockey Team. Amber has retired her elite playing hockey career in the CWHL – Toronto Furies but continues to Play Sr. AA with the Aurora Panthers. Amber is currently a Firefighter for Central York Fire department of Newmarket and Aurora after Working as a Fitness and Sports Supervisor at Base Borden. Amber started her Fire Combat Challenge in 2011 and since then has Won 16 Gold Medals on the World Stage. She continues to excel, conquering the Canadian Firefit all time female individual fastest time of 1:58.
