BurlingtonGreen Environmental Association is hosting its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, November 21st, 2013 at Burlington Central Library, 2331 New Street, Burlington.
The event will feature well known broadcast journalist Donna Tranquada whose keynote presentation will share the inspiring story of a successful grassroots campaign that stopped a proposed mega quarry northwest of Toronto.
The Food and Water First organization sprung from this citizens’ movement and is dedicated to protecting Class 1 farmland and source water regions across the province. Ontario farmers produce the most diverse range of food in Canada and yet a mere 5% of the province’s land base is suitable for agriculture. Of that, only a small proportion includes Class 1, 2, 3 or 4 soils. “Local food security is becoming increasingly important and we are pleased to provide this special event opportunity to put the spotlight on this subject” says Ken Woodruff, President of BurlingtonGreen.
The public is invited to attend the business portion of the AGM starting at 6:15 pm followed by opening remarks at 7:00 p.m. sharp and the keynote presentation at 7:15 p.m. Seating is limited so the public is asked to register at www.burlingtongreen.org. A free eco-prize raffle and complimentary refreshments will also be available.
