On Friday, November 1st 2013, Random Acts of Kindness will be happening all over Oakville. For the third year in a row, the Oakville Community Foundation, with the leadership of a large body of volunteers is sponsoring this Friday in November to both highlight the kindnesses which happen every day in our town as well as encourage citizens to step out of their normal routines and take time for others through simple positive acts.
Who Can Participate?
People of all kinds, young and old are capable and invited to join in. Acts of kindness can range from holding a door open to smiling at everyone you meet to raking your neighbour’s lawn. Acts can, but don’t have to include an expenditure of funds. The real investment is a few minutes of time and some careful thought.
Why Are We Doing This?
Oakville is a great place to live and work. At the same time, needs in the community increase every year and financial support does not keep up. Similarly, there are fewer people volunteering their time to support the work of charities. Through Random Acts of Kindness Day we are able to think about, talk about and practice the sort of community we want to build. Participating in RAK allows us reach out to others with whom we wouldn’t ordinarily interact. We can take action to make things better and Share Some Kindness.
