Andrew Pyper – Pre-writing: From Idea for a Novel to High-Concept
The most important sentence you’ll ever conceive for your novel is one that will never appear in the text itself: the story’s logline, or a compressed expression of what the book is “about.” Sounds simple? When tested and applied to story structures, it in fact proves to be the most challenging – and overlooked – aspect of the entire process.
WCYR invites you to join this workshop led by Andrew Pyper, which will guide authors from taking “ideas for a novel” through the pre-writing steps that will strengthen the story’s concept, open it to its full potential, and improve its chances for finding a home in the publishing marketplace.
Andrew Pyper is the author of The Demonologist, which won the International Thriller Writers award for Best Hardcover Novel and was selected for the Globe and Mail’s Best 100 Books of 2013 and Amazon’s 20 Best Books of 2013. He is also the author of six novels, including The Damned, The Demonologist and Lost Girls, which won the Arthur Ellis Award for crime fiction and was a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. The Killing Circle was a New York Times Best Crime Novel of the Year. Four of Pyper’s novels, including The Damned, are in active development for feature film. He lives in Toronto.
