Grabbing The Hammer Lane: A Trucker Narrative takes audiences on a journey in search of redemption

Award-winning play at the Hamilton Fringe Festival in
July 2024

Hamilton, ON – After delivering critically acclaimed performances at the Orlando Fringe
Festival, the Roswell Roots festival, and the United Solo Theatre Festival in
New York City this year, first-time playwright, David Proctor, will debut his
award-winning play, Grabbing the Hammer Lane: 
A Trucker Narrative at the 2024 Hamilton Fringe Festival on July 19 –
27, 2024.

The play explores the
transformational journey of two men forced to confront the life choices they made. It is a searing play about prodigal rebellion and fleeting moments for
redemption. Matt, a long-haul trucker hits the road to find himself and the
freedom he desires, only to become a prisoner over time to a steel cell on 18
wheels. Clarence remains at home, diminishing with the passage of time and from
the anguish he bears from losing the love he pushed away. With humor, grit and in-your-face honesty, Hammer
Lane chronicles the lives of these two men, living different sides of
one story – a story about rejection, regret, separation, and the devastating
consequences of rage-fueled choices.

Proctor is a
classically trained actor who attended San Francisco’s renowned American
Conservatory Theater Conservatory Program, and has performed on stage in
classic, contemporary, and improvisational theater productions. His decades of
experience as a commercial truck driver; however, is what informed his
writing 

Grabbing the Hammer
Lane. He considers the play a peak into the lives of people we pass on the road
every day.

“Grabbing the hammer lane is trucker
lingo for moving into the passing lane to get around slow-moving traffic.
Metaphorically, ‘grabbing the hammer lane’ also means proactively releasing
yourself from any impediment,” said Proctor.  “At the heart of this
narrative lies the stark truth I learned during my 30 plus years on the road
working in the commercial trucking industry: we are all defined by the choices
we make.”
