Calling all gardeners and nature lovers! Butterflyway Burlington (& Surrounding Areas) is hosting the 3rd Annual Pollinator Habitat Garden Event. This fun, family-friendly event highlights the connections between native plants, pollinators, and other beneficial insects.
Highlights include

Opening: Land Acknowledgment and Indigenous Stewardship of the Land by Matt Claus of the Mohawk Nation.

Keynote Talk: Best selling author and biodiversity advocate Lorraine Johnson will present tips on how to work with neighbors and local governments to challenge outdated bylaws that restrict native garden habitat.

Restoration and Natural Gardening Advice: Native plant author Shaun Booth will be providing expert native planting advice and best practices.

Self-Guided Garden Tour: Check out thriving pollinator gardens with plant tags identifying larval host species for butterflies and moths.

Meet the Backyard Bugs Station: Investigate specimens of beneficial bugs, including common backyard butterflies and moths (some are nocturnal moths rarely seen).

Hands-On Seed Ball Making: Create your own pollinator-friendly seed balls to take home.

Winter-Sowing Demos: Learn how to collect seeds and grow your own pollinator plants.

Interactive Habitat Stations: Observe Native Bee habitat, Moth and Butterfly Habitat, and Pond and Firefly Habitat, and talk to experts about how to create them in your yard.

Exhibits: Halton Master Gardeners, BurlingtonGreen and Pollination Guelph

Live Art Painting: Local artist Tina Newlove will paint native pollinator habitat.

Native Plants available for donations
With biodiversity losses including steep insect declines due to human actions and climate change, this event is designed to engage local residents in protecting neighbourhood ecosystems. Native plantings will mitigate biodiversity loss and flooding, and sequester carbon.
Whether you’re a new or seasoned gardener, there’s something for everyone.

Butterflyway Burlington & (Surrounding Areas) hosts an annual pollinator garden tour with interactive learning stations, and supplies local groups with native pollinator plants. The Butterflyway Project is a program of the David Suzuki Foundation. It is a citizen-led, volunteer-run movement that is growing highways of habitat for bees and butterflies across Canada.
