Sprig molds are a shallow one part mold that help potters take detailed impressions of the surface of an object either found -or- hand sculpted. These simple molds allow ceramicists to create ornate designs that add depth to their pottery in an efficient way. Once you have created a sprig mold, you can recreate the impression of your chosen object and use it repeatedly to either embellish the surface of your pottery or make a 3-D stand alone piece! In this course you will learn step by step how to make and use a plaster sprig mold.
What’s included: Plaster, oil based clay and or recycled clay, tupperware, mold release
What you will need to bring:
-N95 mask to protect yourself from breathing in plaster particles.
– A few small objects no larger than roughly 4”x4” that you would like to make a mold of. *IMPORTANT*: These objects need to be able to lay flat on one side or close to flat so we can take an impression of one side of the object. Objects that are spikey, have large appendages like arms or legs will not work.
