Event Details
Volcano presents Preservation, an exhibition of new multidisciplinary artworks by four internationally-acclaimed Palestinian artists: dancer and choreographer Marah Haj; filmmaker Moaz Hosni; installation and multidisciplinary artist Shahd Itbakhi; and photographer Hosny Salah. Commissioned by Volcano, and curated by theatre maker and Volcano Associate Artist, Rimah Jabr, Preservation seeks to foreground the points of view of artists at risk of erasure due to war, genocide, and/or targeted violence. The exhibition can be viewed at The Theatre Centre (1115 Queen St. W.) from March 19 to May 17, 2026, and access is free of charge. The work will also be available online as of April 10.
Rather than presenting Palestinian identity as monolithic or reductionist, Preservation strives to draw upon the region’s multifaceted diversity – of history, culture, class, religion, and ethnicity – alongside a consideration of life under duress that might not be anticipated by the Canadian viewer. The work aims to give audiences perspective on Palestinian life from Palestinian artists, outside of a western-media lens.
This iteration of Preservation is intended as the first in a series that will draw upon the points of view of artists in crisis zones across the globe.
