In a Bowl
A bowl is an imaginative piece of silverware serving as one’s personal assortment of foods which they prepare to devour. In other words, a bowl is a special item where people eat stuff that they want out of. At In a Bowl Poke & Ramen Bar, bowls full of delicious ingredients of all kinds are chosen by customers to enjoy to their liking.
In a Bowl’s menu consists of Japanese foods fit into 3 kinds of bowls – Poke Bowls, Ramen Bowls, and Rice Bowls.
‘Poke’ means ‘to cut something’. As such, Poke Bowls are bowls consist of all sorts of ingredients cut into small little cubes.
When creating your own Poke bowl at In a Bowl, there are 6 steps.
First, you choose a base to fit at the bottom of the bowl. Your choices are white rice, purple rice, wild rice, and salad. Or if you want, you can choose to have no base.
Next, you get to pick 5 different fruits or vegetables to be split into even sections in your bowl on top of your base.
The third step is the big one – the protein. They have a wide variety of options ranging from raw salmon to fried tempura shrimp.
The final 3 steps are to add a sauce, some toppings, and some decorations.
The available ingredients will be shown right in front of you, and you’ll get to see each ingredient put onto your bowl as it gets made. However, I still recommend checking out their website which shows each ingredient available.
Ramen Bowls
Similiar to Poke bowls, In a Bowl allows you to create your own ramen bowl! There are only 3 steps this time.
First, choose a soup base. Tonkotsu is a milky broth made from pork bones, Miso has a sweet-tangy flavour, and Shoyu is a transparent broth with soy sauce. The soup base is incredibly important to the overall taste of a ramen bowl.
Second, choose your desired protein! Your choices include pork, chicken, and seafood. If you’re a vegetarian, you also have the option of picking no meat at all and instead including a bunch of veggies.
Finally, the fun part – toppings! This is where you get to customise your ramen bowl whichever way you like, and with however many toppings you want. Options include fish cakes, seaweed, corn, green onions, garlic, ginger, black fungus, egg, and cabbage. That’s not even all of them! So, have fun stacking your ramen bowl with as many different things as you want.
Rice Bowls
Poke bowls can consist of rice, but rice bowls are completely different! Instead of ordering each ingredient in your bowl yourself, their rice bowls are menu items already consisting of deliciously paired ingredients and white rice. Each order also comes with a side of miso soup. So, if you don’t like the the pressure of choosing your own ingredients, rice bowls are a great option. Also, most things in a Poke bowl are raw and cut into cubes, but the ingredients in a rice bowl are all fully cooked and flavoured to perfection.
A couple mouth watering options are their Gyudon Beef Bowl and Chicken Katsu. The image below is their Unagi Bowl with egg, broccoli and pickled ginger. Once again, I highly recommend checking out their incredibly well made online menu for more options!
Appetizers
Don’t just stop at the bowls! In a Bowl also offers many delicious appetisers including Calamari, Takoyaki, Karaage, Gyoza, and more! These appetizers are perfect for a quick bite, or as a side dish with your bowl.
If you can’t decide which appetiser you want to get, why not get all of them with their appetiser party tray?
Additionally, In a Bowl has a selection of Japanese soft drinks for you to choose to drink alongside your meal. Japanese soft drinks are a lot different from Canadian ones, and have a distinctive sweet flavour. It’s a lot tastier than your average Coke or Sprite!
So, come to In a Bowl Poke & Ramen Bar if you’re in the mood to customise your own quick Japanese lunch.
