the lake shimmering in the sun just a few blocks away is part of what
defines the experience. After a day of shopping you can take in the
beautiful lakefront shoreline and visit spots like Lakeside Park. While
there, you can learn more about the town’s history at the Erchless
Estate, which was once the home of the town’s founding family and
is now Oakville’s community museum. There is a lot of history to be
found in some of the nearby homes too, like the ones that housed the
old blacksmith shop and post office. Others date back to 1812 and are
cultural landmarks.
This summer the Town of Oakville is starting a new initiative called
the “Summer Cultural Connection”, all part of the plan to make Down-
town Oakville the cultural hub of Oakville. For example, there’s a new
weekly farmers’ market in Centennial Square, which will bring fresh and
local produce to the core every Saturday from June 6 to October 31.
